The Anytimer

Father’s Day is this weekend, and we think the day calls for whiskey.  You can go the classic route and serve old fashioneds or manhattans, but this cocktail is a little lighter and perhaps more appropriate for that day drinking we all know you’ll be doing in honor of your dad.

The Anytimer
2 oz. rye
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. orange juice
½ oz. simple syrup
½ oz. amaretto

Shake all ingredients together with ice and strain into an ice-filled highball glass.  Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

We’re huge fans of Bulleit Rye and this recipe was created by the Bulleit team, so we chose to use that brand.  I was fairly skeptical about the amaretto, but it actually works really well with the spiciness of the rye.  The combination of spirits creates a smooth blend of sweetness and spice.  The different juices smooth it out even more, making the anytimer incredibly easy to drink (and consequently, appropriately named).  I know this is a bourbon blog, but if you used bourbon instead of rye, I think the concoction may lean toward saccharine.
